The god In a Box, Part 2

Yesterday, we examined how skeptics try to put God into a box.  They try to set up the conditions for “testing” whether God exists or not, often without a clue as to whether or not any of the conditions are a reflection of reality.  Too often, as well, they completely ignore that God is the One in charge, He is sovereign over all, and to just assume that He is going to bow to their wishes is downright presumptuous.

And yet, don’t a lot of “believers” do the same?  Is there any shortage of “Christians” who also try to put God into a box?

Let’s face it, if we can put God into a box of our own choosing, then He is not God!  If we can put God into one of our boxes, then He is just a god, lowercase ‘g’, and barely one at that.

When God says “Remember”, that is the first thing they forget.  When Jesus said He did not come to destroy the Law, preachers get up and say the Law was abolished.  When God says don’t worship Him like the pagans did, some claim it is so wonderful how certain rituals and days were “transformed”.  When God says to keep certain days as holy, people presumptuously believe they can make something holy.

That last point needs some expanding upon.  If you’ve ever been unfortunate enough to watch Oprah, you have probably seen some of the New Age clowns on there.  One in particular is Marianne Williamson.  Now, I haven’t watched her directly, but I have heard quotes and clips from what she teaches, and I tell you without reservation that it is downright Satanic.  She has you do things like tell yourself you are “holy”.  I remember Way of the Master Radio ran a clip where she said, “My holiness blesses the chair.”

There are other more blasphemous quotes I won’t sicken you with, but the point is that believing you are holy and have the right to make anything else holy is occultism!  It goes back to the Garden of Eden, where Adam and Eve decided to take for themselves the prerogative to determine what was good and what was evil.  They wanted the power to decide what was right.  They wanted the power to determine what was holy.

God says otherwise.  God says He is holy (Lev 11:45).  That is why He told Israel to “remember” the Sabbath to “keep it holy”.  Why?  Because flesh and blood cannot make things holy!  The Sabbath was already holy, sanctified, set apart to be holy, from the very beginning (Ge 2:3).

Israel could not make the Sabbath holy.  They could only “keep” it holy.  The Catholic Church cannot make Sunday holy because they don’t have the power to do so.  The Catholic Church cannot make Easter holy because they don’t have the power to do so.  The Catholic Church cannot make “holy week” holy because they do not have the power to do so.

The Protestants cannot make these things holy either, and they only prove themselves to really be Catholics at heart because they never broke away from the Babylonian Harlot called “Catholicism” (cf. Rev 17:5).  The Catholic Church is the “Mother of harlots”, meaning all of the Protestant daughter churches.

God calls syncretism “adultery” and “fornication” throughout the OT.  How much less must He view modern efforts to put Him into an idolatrous box?
