Thoughts on Equality

Some people have the day off in recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr Day.  Civil rights in the US came at a cost.  In the case of MLK, it came at the cost of his life, unfortunately.

There is another individual who died for freedom, though, and that person was none other than Jesus Christ.  He shocked many in His day by treating people with fairness and compassion, whether they were female, slave, tax collectors, prostitutes and even Samaritans.  He came to call sinners to repentance in order to set them free from their sins.  This was extended to sinners of both sexes and to all nations.

Not only that, but He promises to level the playing field even more.  How?  By grafting non-Israelites upon the nation of Israel, making them spiritual descendants of Abraham.  No one will be able to boast in their physical ancestry.

In the end, it isn’t the type of skin you have but the type of faith.

  1. (Gal 3:28) Neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female for ye all are one man in Christ Jesus.

Race, economics and gender – equality in spiritual Israel covers all the bases.

Equality in this world is unlikely, uncertain and transient at best being based on what we perceive our "rights" to be.

But equality in Christ is based on God's perfect love made permanent in the promise of eternal life.
