One of the more disturbing items German Chancellor Angela Merkel has floated is the resurrection of talks about the so-called “Tobin Tax”. Senior European commissioner Joaquin Almunia said the “beautiful” “Global tax idea ‘not viable’”, according to the Bangkok Post. The proposal has backing from Austria and France, but part of the problem is that the objectives of the measure differ greatly.
