Mountains Out of Molehills

I still believe that the Internet is the most cost effective means of spreading the Gospel. Not only that, but it is the most effective. You don’t have to have a radio or TV station to carry a particular program. You don’t have to smuggle in copies of magazines or booklets. Even better, people come looking for you, not the other way around.

It seems that some would really disagree with that assessment, though. Well, OK. It is just my opinion, after all. Even if it is an informed opinion, it is still an opinion.

However, it does start to rub me the wrong way when critics start yammering about the effectiveness of delivering the Gospel message and comparing themselves to others. When they start delivering opinion as fact, it becomes a real problem. First off, it rubs me the wrong way just that they would beat their chest over things like the number of magazines and booklets, when that isn’t what it really is all about. Frankly, it smacks of pride. Second, it rubs me the wrong way because we aren’t supposed to compare ourselves to each other, or judge the work of a fellowservant. Thirdly, it causes unnecessary division.

Maybe, just maybe, if I post some real facts, some of these people will find something real to bicker about. Let’s see just how stupid these schoolyard antics really are. There is a chart below. Tell me: Who is spreading the Gospel according to this chart?

Site Avg Max
cog-pkg.org 9.3k 12.1k (6/2/09)
lcg.org 9.6k 15.3k (6/15/09)

pcog.org 16.8k 21.2k (4/16/09)
moodyradio.org 24.9k 38.6k (4/7/09)
thercg.org 51.1k 71.4k (3/8/09)

newadvent.org 557k 911k (3/23/09)

So, who should be criticizing whom over web sites? Do you see perhaps why some would claim that the Internet isn’t the best vehicle in which to preach the Gospel?

More to the point, do you see the real problem with saying, “Why, we do x number of [some type of media], so we are the one’s doing God’s work”?

Oh, yeah, and I almost forgot the number attending or even the rate of growth is no sure indicator of where God’s work is, either. If that was the case, then Pentecostal must be where God is working.

Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

~ Lk 12:32

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Beware of false prophets [even those with many website hits], which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

~ Mt 7:13-20

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

~ Gal 5:22-23
