‘Artificial Life’

6And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. (Genesis 11:6, King James Version)

The NIV renders the last part of that verse as “then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.” Human beings are created in the image of God. The human mind is really only limited by physical constraints.

The BBC News has reported on “’Artificial life’ breakthrough announced by scientists“. In reality, only the genome is synthetic, although some have referred to it as a “synthetic cell”.

You know, I have often wondered about some things in Revelation.

6And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. (Revelation 9:6, King James Version)

What would cause men to not be able to find death? I mean, suicide has been around for a very long time. Yet, something occurs during this time of great stress upon the earth that prohibits people from dying, at least temporarily. Could this be the result of some of the genetic experimentation going on today? Could it be that body parts can be created to lengthen human life indefinitely?

I suppose we will find out when we get there, but I see a real possible tie-in.

  1. Could we say until people begin a new life in Christ, ALL people live an "artificial life?" Verses such as Romans 6:4 come to mind.
