Reflections: The World’s Mixed-Up View of Marriage

About 50% of marriages in the US end in divorce.  The Church has long recognized that the world’s concept of love leading to marriage as being flawed.  There is so much more to it.  Most often, what the world calls “love” is nothing but out-and-out lust.  A shallow foundation to build what is supposed to be a life-long relationship upon.

Australian researchers now have done studies that back this up.  Reuters reported the factors affecting marriage are much more complex in the 14 July 2009 article “In love? It’s not enough to keep a marriage, study finds”.

The Church of God has long encouraged counseling prior to marriage.  As a life-long commitment, it isn’t something to enter into lightly.  However, a strong marriage is a gift from God.
